HOLY TRINITY VIXENS – GIRLS UNDER 13s

If ever there was a season of two halves surely this was it!

At the end of last season the Vixens lost players to Chesham and Australia and we needed to go from 7-a-side to 9-a-side so we were struggling for numbers.  Our friends at Penn and Tylers had similar problems so we decided to combine the teams that had competed against each other in last year’s Hazlemere Sixes.  So training session number one pretty much consisted of “what position do you play?” question and generally getting to know each other with 6 old Vixens and six new P&T girls.

We also entered the new Under 13 league which consisted of only 5 teams but included Ruislip and Marlow – the two outstanding under 12 teams from last season and it meant we’d be playing each other 3 times (plus a cup league match against Marlow!)

After our first 9 games (up to the freezing cold of January) we had played 9 (5 league, 4 cup) and lost 9, conceding 65 and scoring 14 – things did not look good – the manager was in bits, the keeper had stormed off our last match teary eyed and throwing gloves  and blooming Marlow had beaten us again.  BUT the girls had started to bond, we had a system worked out and adversity had tested and strengthened our character.

Our next game saw that same keeper, Mills keep a clean sheet and we won 7-0.  Grace took on the role of sweeper and marshalled a back line of Caitlin, Lucy and Megan W who had become hard to break down. Marine and Hannah (so tough she scares me) started to boss the mid field and Jess combined up front with Jemma who was becoming a goal scoring machine.  With Megan R, Ami and Lara fitting in as utility players wherever they were asked to play, we suddenly had a really good team!

In the second half of the season we played 8 and won 5, scored 31 and conceded 26 and ended up 3rd in the league.  Finally, we entered a team for the Sixes again (pictured above) and capped off the season with a 2-1 victory over Ruislip, the winners of our league with Jemma scoring goals 29 and 30 of her season.

A great year and a great group of girls – bring on 2011/12
