HT Eagles

What a blow for Eagles to come second this year, second in a league where we were becoming used to being top.

Let’s just think about this for a moment; Wycombe Wanderers felt like champions for coming third because they were getting pretty used to losing! (Chelsea and) Eagles on the other hand were so used to winning that second seems a harsh final position. We need to be proud and hold our heads up high and think of all the impressive football that enabled so many wins this season. We were the only team that were tough to beat for the eventual champions, St Mary’s Lions; and each time we played them, our score improved.

When I look back over the season it fills me with pride. You really are a special group Eagles. I honestly look forward to Saturday mornings because of the enthusiasm and eagerness you lot portray. We must hold the record for attendance on non-match days and you all work so well on new exercises. The club are also very proud of how far the Eagles got in both the league and also the home tournament competitions.

And so in no particular order…

Thank you Kai M for defending that goal so superbly all season. The difference between goals scored and goals conceded was the biggest ever this year. Usually the role of keeper is shared but you have carried it courageously on your own. It must be hard for you to have to bear the responsibility of this position but you do it so well Kai, I do hope you can continue in this role. I know the team admire you hugely.

Thank you James for showing such a consistently passionate eagerness in Eagles. Once again, this whole year your attendance is top. You have also graciously upheld the defending position despite preferring to play up front. We have all noticed that you have calmed down and your defending has been terrific.

Thank you Sam for being such an enthusiastic and noble defender. You continue to improve and your play is wonderfully consistent as is your attitude. Sam you can be relied upon to give of your best and follow instructions, which are such great qualities.

Thank you Kieran for being such a solid, courageous and outstanding defender. You are very respectful and I know you are already preparing to alter your game ready for eleven a side next season. Keep up with the hard work and I am so pleased that on top of all your great defending, you also contributed to our goals this year!

Thank you Hugh for your fabulous defensive work in the main matches and your tireless work in the middle, in the friendly matches. Your eager and enthusiastic character and willingness to be part of the team has benefited the Eagles greatly.

Thank you Chris for working so hard in whichever position you have been put. You are such a versatile player and go in for tackles fearlessly. I think you have had more falls than anyone but your resilience is superb. Well done for gallantly taking on the keeper’s position on occasions.

Thank you Robbie for playing with such fervour and determination. Attackers in friendly matches always had difficulty getting past you and you were very valuable at the back. Maybe you should have a think about joining us again in the future; we wish you all the best in the mean time.

Thank you Tegan for your tremendously clever and competent playing this season. I think it is true to say that your playing has been solid and dependable and then all of a sudden, without warning, came moments of brilliance where you tore up the whole field and placed the ball right at the back of the net. You even surprised yourself! More please…

Thank you Joseph for your commitment to the Eagles. You have improved so much again this season and you are also a very versatile player. It is great to have a few members who can be relied upon to give of their best in any position and you are one of those. Well done for the goals and some especially brilliant playing in the tournaments.

Thank you Luke for being such a reliable player. As a manager I can relax when the ball is headed towards you knowing that you will make a great decision about where to place it next. You have set up so many goals this season (and scored a few too) and your passing and teamwork have improved magnificently. You are able, skilful and wonderful.

Thank you Jack for your consistence and persistence; also your brilliantly adept playing. 17 goals in the league games was an invaluable contribution to our success this year. You seem to be putting your competitiveness into the right areas and all three trainers have noticed a difference in your attitude. You are nimble with the ball and think ahead which is a great skill.

Thank you Isaac for contributing to the league matches with such outstanding proficiency. You contributed to several goals and played with tremendous fervour, working so well with your team-mates. You also read the game well and therefore make good decisions. You have been excellent.

Thank you Kai D for your most amazing season yet. You are brilliant, passionate and magnificent up front, scoring so many goals for us. You work particularly well passing in twos and threes during the game and contribute to us gaining ground so often. Your courage and determination to follow up shots has also served the team well.

I hope you are all looking forward to next season – more like the real thing with bigger teams, larger goals, longer playing time (no friendly matches!).

I’ll be swatting up on the off side rule which I can pretty much explain already (!) so make sure you all do your homework too. You’ll need to all remain (or get?!) fit too, due to the hour long matches.

Stefan has very kindly offered to run a few summer training sessions, which could be vital with the impending changes. It will also be a great chance to bring along any friends in your school year group who might like to join us next season. Ideally we would like a minimum of 15 players. Here are the dates for these:

25th June and then all 4 Saturdays in July.

August will be our official break.

On that note I would like (I am sure on behalf of everyone else too) to thank both David and Stefan for their invaluable and tireless help over this whole season. We will be meeting before the summer break to discuss and plan for next year. If any parents would like to have any input to this, please email your thoughts and offer your time or contributions. Of course do also feel free to request greater involvement too :o )

Thank you parents, for your commitment and your support, not to mention all the goal setting up and dismantling too.

 Have a fab summer…
