HT Angels

 HT Angels 2010/11

The new season started with the original line-up from 2009-2010 of Gabi, Fi, Emma, Madi, Briony, Nadia and Sianna with the welcome return of Katie-May and Ilona.   We also gladly welcomed the addition of Laura (a goalkeeper at last!), Lucie and Regine

The season got off to a difficult start with a first match against Chesham, league winners from last year.  The girls fought well but conceded a 6-2 defeat.  Their spirit was not dampened however as they came back to play against Bedmond Ajax.  A very exciting game ensued as both teams were evenly matched but thanks to a brilliant hat-trick by Fi (Captain), the girls won 3-2.  At this point, we sadly lost Emma due to persistent injury problems.  The addition of Chelsie in defence definitely helped strengthen the back row combination of Gabi, Sianna, Madi and Regine.

The winning streak continued as they played Berkhamsted Raiders FC – Belles with a convincing 12-0 win.  An unknown fixture was up next as they played EB Lions.  Again, this was a very exciting match and the combination of wingers Katie-May, Briony and Lucie backed up by a strong centre midfield combination of Nadia and Ilona saw the Angels fighting for every opportunity.  Swopping Madi from defence into striker position proved its worth as she scored followed by another great goal from Lucie.  Newcomer Shelby helped to maintain the strong defence line.  The 2-2 result was a true reflection of a well fought game and some great saves from Laura

Due to the weather conditions, the Angels only played one more game in 2010 against league leaders Berkhamsted Raiders FC which they unfortunately lost by 1-0.

The new year began with the loss of Shelby and Regine.  On the bright side, we gained the versatile talents of Kayleigh and the welcome return of Georgia.  February saw another two wins against Bedmond Ajax and Berkhamsted Raiders FC – Belles.  For me, the next match against Berkhamsted Raiders FC was the highlight of the season.  Although the result was a 0-0 draw, the girls played some of the best football we had seen all season.  The energy, skill and determination to win never faltered throughout the whole game.

However, the return match against Chesham saw us lose again followed by a double header against Wycombe (who went on to win the league) where we also lost.  Another double header against Chalfont Saints saw a 2-0 win and 4-2 loss, a great result considering we were missing 3 key players.  This cemented our end of season position as 4th in the league.

I’m incredibly proud of our girls and their fighting spirit.  Sadly, due to their age, we lose Lucie, Katie-May, Chelsie, Laura and Ilona next season but our loss will be Hazlemere Ladies gain.

I’m indebted to Simon and Gary for their huge support in running the team, Jodie for her social secretary skills and all the parents for providing us with consistent support and endless cups of tea!
