MASSEY UPDATE

on Saturday 17 July 2010 - 21:01:17 | by Alan Cecil
Latest profile of former HT Junior player, Alan Massey, now with Ryman League side Wealdstone:Age: 21

Joined Wealdstone on loan from Wycombe Wanderers in Aug 2007 and played in 23 first team games scoring 2 goals before being recalled by the Football League Club, he also spent a short spell on loan to Hendon. Unfortunately for Alan things did not work out at Wycombe and he was released at the end of the 07/08 season. He re-signed for the Stones, on contract, in Aug 2008. Alan performed consistently well last season at the heart of the defence as well as providing opposition defences a headache at set-ball situations.
Was the Supporters Club 'Player of the season' last season

CUP FINAL SUCCESS

on Sunday 09 May 2010 - 21:10:36 | by Alan Cecil
Saturday May 8th was the day for the Chiltern Church League Cup Finals held at Chalfont St Peter FC and HTJFC had two of its teams in action:

Jaguars Cup: HT Rovers 2-0 Harefield United Under 16s
A tight hard fought affair with the sides equally matched in the first half which ended goalless. Rovers had to re-shuffle their team due to Dan Hardy's injury and their superior tactics after the half time team talk helped them dominate the second period.
They then played more creatively thorugh the midfield and the first goal came about 10 mins in when Adam Thomas played Chaumie in with a beautifully weighted lob….Chaumie then took it first bounce, before lobbing the keeper. 10 mins later it was Adam’s turn to get on the score sheet when he rose high above the Harefield centre back to head a superb Craig Marshall free kick into the top right hand corner. Matt Hosseiny almost made it three with about 10 mins to go but the Harefield keeper made a brilliant save from a thunderbolt of a shot.

Congratulations to Steve and the team on a deserved victory Afterwards winning Manager Steve Hardy said:"Magnificent performance from all the lads, they all raised their games brilliantly……made me very proud !"

Lions Cup:     Holy Trinity Sharks 5-2 Kings Amersham Saints
Sharks went 2-0 up in in the first 20 minutes with goals from Luke Umansky and an own goal. It then got a bit nervy as Amersham pulled one back. Zac Beaumont then stretched Sharks' lead before Amersham hit back again.

At 3-2 Sharks knew they needed another goal and Matty Goss duly scored one from a tight angle to restore the 2 goal cushion. John Mark Brenda then completed the job with a fantastic solo effort, carving through the defence to take the Sharks to a 5-2 victory.

Well done Francis and all the Sharks, double winners and unbeaten all season!

Another HT Junior signs for Wycombe Wanderers

on Wednesday 28 April 2010 - 13:25:08 | by Alan Cecil
Great news to see our youngsters getting noticed by our local League club!

The latest member to sign for Wycombe Wanderers is 12 year old Matt Goss who has been playing for Holy Trinity Sharks for a number of seasons.

Wanderers have signed up Matt on a 2 year contract after he really impressed the club with his skills. The Head of Youth Development told Matt that he had done extremely well to get in at the age of 12 as it's quite rare now for a club to take someone in that late!

Hopefully Matt will still be able to play in the Sharks final two games this season both against Kings Amersham Saints as these could lead to a cup and league double for his team.

We wish Matt all the very best for his future and will be monitoring his progress and bringing you updates when we can.

WYCOMBE WANDERERS - Why are they called 'THE CHAIRBOYS'?

on Sunday 11 April 2010 - 21:23:05 | by Alan Cecil
High Wycombe is well known for furniture making, especially chairmaking. In the football club's amateur days, many of the early team members made chairs for a living, playing football in the evenings and weekends.

The traditional chair from the area was a wooden seated Windsor chair and early team members would also have made rush seated, cane seated and upholstered chairs.

A chair arch was put up in the town in 1877 to celebrate Queen Victoria's visit to High Wycombe. This was just a few years before the Wycombe Wanderers team first got together (1887). By then there were over 100 chair factories in High Wycombe producing nearly 5,000 chairs every day. So no wonder most of the team's day jobs were in chair making.

There are lots more locally made chairs and some Wycombe Wanderers memorabilia on display at the Wycombe Museum to whose staff I am grateful for the above information.

Go to www.wycombe.gov.uk/museum for more details about this wonderful public facility, to which admission is free.

Wycombe Museum is located on Priory Avenue in High Wycombe, close to the railway station and town centre. Postcode for satnav is HP13 6PX.
It is open Monday-Saturday 10am-5pm, Sunday 2pm-5pm, Bank Holidays - closed.
