THE A to Z OF HOLY TRINITY JUNIORS FOOTBALL CLUB (continued)
C is for ........................ CHAMPIONS and D is for.............................DYNAMOS
Yes, in their last season with us, Holy Trinity Dynamos won the Under 16 (Jaguars) title in the Chiltern Church Junior League.
Here is their end of season report from long standing (and long-suffering) Manager, Andy Neville-Webber.
THE DYNAMOS SEASON Blimey, that was close!! Well, what do you expect when you have to rely on Iver not losing to Harefield in their last game? What were the key games? First game of the season – Dragons away. Dynamos were down 3-1 when Harefield were awarded a penalty and their captain blasts it over the bar! We have a chance. Nigel does a Torres and hooks in a goal from an angle which defied the laws of physics, and then Tom coolly lobs the keeper from just outside the centre circle. (3-3). Away versus Amersham Rangers – this game was tight! Nigel battled with 2 defenders, snaffled the ball and set off. A one-two with Tom on the edge of the area and Nigel slips the ball under the keeper. (1 – 0). Then the biggy!Home versus Harefield. As usual it isn’t a great spectacle but with two evenly matched teams. Scott scored using his stomach!!Ten minutes later Harefield levelled with a cracking shot even Jono couldn’t reach. Game on!The ball comes to Rhys, he lays it to Nigel who hits it under the crossbar. The crowd goes wild and the whistle blows. (2-1). These were the games which won us the title. And make no mistake, this was a team title. Matt, Shariq, Alex and Josh didn’t play as often as some but they were an integral part of the Dynamos machine. Our defence was awesome with Liam, Tim, Billy and Ryan being very consistent. Our ‘keeper, Jonathan Carpenter was worth at least 5 points to the team this season. His 2 massive saves against Harefield were simply world class. The best ‘keeper in the League by far. In the midfield, Scott, Zach and Adam were solid. Rhys and Luke were outstanding as they were played in at least 5 different positions. They truly are invaluable utility players. Nobody else on the team can play in such varied positions and do it well. And what can we say about Tom and Nigel? What an attacking force, with 42 goals between them in just 14 games! You all really deserved this title. And just think – in the 3 seasons where Dynamos have been in the older age band in 11-a-side, Dragons have won the title just once, but Dynamos have won it twice!!! Well done lads. Andy Neville-Webber
A is for .....................ANGELS (see their report below)
and A is also for..............................ATHLETIC
Holy Trinity Athleticfinished runners up in the Under 12's league.
Here's their end of season report from Manager Noel Mellett:
This year saw us finish runners up in our league to K.C.Amersham, with the always dependable Chris Banning wearing the gloves in goal. He continued to play to his usually high standard which he set last season. Joey Andrews took over the gloves when Chris was injured and performed heroic's. In front of our goalkeeper we had our superb defensive unit which consisted of a combination of Methembe Njani, Harvey Almrott and Harry Pearce proving a formidable force as centre backs and alsowith John Mellett and Sam Olhausen providing brilliant cover as right and left back's with over lapping runs to support the midfield and attack.
Into Midfield with last years' 'Managers Player of the Year', Martin Andrews patrolling the midfield hunting for his pound of flesh and the always tricky Tommy Dixon darting down the wing and supplying the ammo for the front line as well as scoring goals himself. Not forgetting the creative Thomas Westbrook working tirelessly in the centre alongside the tough tackling Michael Cresswell. Robert Ditchburn's season has stopped and started a bit through illness but when he has played he has worked hard and linked well with attack and our two left midfielder's Louis Kos and Joey Andrews were both in excellent form until injury cut short their season.
All good teams have four good strikers up front and we are no exception, with Aaron Revell, David Gaze, Luke Smith and Nathan Andrews. Luke's last minute winner against K.C.Amersham sparked off the best goal celebrations I've seen all season with Luke buried under a mound of players and inflicting Amersham's only defeat of the season. A special mention to Nathan Andrews who has played the whole season in an older age group and wasn't over roared at all. One of my fondest memories of last season is the hat-trick he scored in our first league game away to Harefield. Aaron Revell finished as our top scorer, proving what a great eye for goal he has, always a threat, never letting a defence rest he also scored with his first touch on his debut. Aaron was ably supported by live wire David Gaze who's speed and skill often embarrassed the opposition.
I would like to finally thank Darren Westbrook and Andy Gaze. Without their support i would not be able to run the team. Also a mention to all the dads who have run up and down the touch line frantically waving a flag, A THANK YOU TO YOU ALL. All that's left to say is bring on 'Next Season', I can't wait!
Gary Watts, who along with Karen Barr manages the Holy Trinity Angels (Girls Under 14) team, took part in the 2009 London to Brighton bike ride.
On Fathers Day, Gary was one of 27,000 riders setting out on the 54 mile journey whilst raising money for the British Heart Foundation. He said that the ride went very well and he crossed the finishing line after 3 hrs 29 mins. If you feel you can sponsor Gary and help this charity, then go to http://www.justgiving.com/garywatts
One of our proudest achievements in recent years has been the establishment of the all-girl teams. Read here the end of season report for the Holy Trinity Angels
HT Angels 2008-09
After a shaky start to the season with a big loss against our local rivals, Penn & Tylers, the girls came together to play some great football.
One of the highlights for the Angels was our match against Ruislip Rangers (who came 2nd in the league). Following a great start to the match which saw us take the lead. Ruislip came back very strongly and we were 4-1 down at half time. Following a morale boosting half time talk, the Angels began to play the type of football we knew they were capable of, which by the final whistle resulted in a 5-5 draw. With fabulous goals by Ilona (2) and Brianna (3) and some sterling defending by Emma, Georgia, Madi, Alice and Sianna. A strong midfield led by Katie-May, Emily and Fi ensured the strikers were fed some great balls. Gabi in goal ensured that only one goal went against us in the 2nd half.
Some credible wins followed against Bourne End and Wycombe B (both home and away). Then came a return match against Penn & Tylers. From the whistle, it was evident that the Angels were not going to be beaten again by our local rivals. A very hard but nail-biting game ensued which resulted in a well-deserved 3-2 victory for us.
We also got through to the quarter finals of the cup beating Chalfont Saints 1-0 (the goal coming in the dying seconds of the match), but sadly lost to Berkhamsted (who were beaten by Wycombe A in the final).
Again, we lacked a permanent goalkeeper so Gabi nobly stepped in graciously helped out by Ilona and Fi who shared every match with her. Alice, Georgia, Leah and Madi all proved strong in defence whilst Emma and Sianna regularly swopped sweeper position. Midfield was solidly held by Fi and Katie-May who showed their versatility by regularly changing from left to right to confuse the opposition. Emily confidently stepped in to whatever position was required and the addition of Briony, Brianna and Ilona gave us some much needed striker power.
All our girls have proved their worth this year, showing great determination and proving they are all team players.Due to the two year age band rules, we sadly have to say goodbye to three very good players for next season, Katie-May, Ilona and Emily. We hope that wherever they play their football next season, they will return to HT Angels for the 2010/2011 season! On a final note, we would like to say a massive thank you to all the parents and other family members for their constant support, not only on the sidelines but in lots of other ways too. Special mention should be given to Simon and David for running the line, Neil for some great goalkeeper training and Jodie for being the ultimate social secretary!
We held a very successful Annual Barbecue and Awards Day - a great celebration of the season just ended. Thanks to all who worked so hard to make it such a success.
In case you didnt get there and/or didn't pick up a programme. I will be posting all the end of season reports in due course under the Our Teams feature on the main menu and be featuring at least one team a week on this front page.
I recently received the following from the parents of our former player Harry Mills who so sadly died from meningitis in 2007. His former team was renamed Holy Trinity Harriers in his memory.
We thought you might be interested in an exciting event happening this summer
Butterfly World & Future Gardens is an ambitious new project being built near St Albans, phase 1 of which opens to the public on June 5th. Butterfly World will feature both native & foreign butterflies and when the biome sphere is completed will house the biggest collection in the world. Future Gardens is a competition showcasing sustainable and conceptual garden design and featuring international designers - the first of its kind in the UK.
Patrons of the Project include Professor Dr David Bellamy, Sir David Attenborough & Alan Titchmarsh. Clive Farrell, founder of Butterfly World, also aims to raise awareness of specific charities by includingan annual feature garden. We are delighted that the inaugural charity garden will be Harry's Garden, sponsored by actress Emilia Fox.
Designed by Fern Alder, gold medal winner at RHS Hampton Court, the garden makes many sporting references, from the rugby posts at the entrance to the ball shaped flowers - ping pong! Many family & friends have also got involved by growing sunflowers and sweet peas (the specially created 'Harry Mills Mixture' & 'Our Harry') which have also been planted in the garden. If you would like more information see Butterfly WorldandFuture Gardens.More information and links atHarry's Website.
Located just off junction 21a of the M25 and about a half hour drive from here, it's well worth a visit.
Holy Trinity Juniors invited the under sixes from King’s Church Amersham over to Hazlemere last Saturday for an under sixes mini-tournament.
Three teams from each club took part in a series of non-competitive games which were played in the right spirit and superbly supported by parents from both sides.
Danny, Brian and Billy are to be congratulated for running a great morning. After the matches there were was an extensive spread of refreshments laid on by the HT mums – well done to them too! There was good football on show by players from both clubs which bodes well for next season’s under 7 matches.
THE DYNAMOS ARE CHAMPIONS In a cracking end to the Under 16's season, St Marys Dragons could only manage a 1-1 draw with St Peters Iver today, thereby gifting the championship to HT Dynamosby the skin of their teeth.
Dynamos and Dragons finish equal on 35 points each but HT take the honours by way of the head-to head results against St Marys, being a 3-3 draw in the first game of the season and a tight 2-1 victory in April.
Dynamos, who thought they had thrown it all away with a 2-2 draw against KC Amersham United just 4 weeks ago, will be justly celebrating a fine end to a well fought campaign.
yes , Wycombe Wanderers have secured automatic promotion, their first promotion by any means since 1994 and a return to League One after a period of 5 years.
Despite losing 1-2 at home to Notts County, in front of a packed house at Adams Park, results elsewhere meant that the Blues gained the third automatic promotion place and will be playing in League One next season.
